How to Deal With People Who Ridicule Islam?
Islam is the fastest growing religion and has the second most number of followers / believers in the current international scenario.
In other words, Islam is the second most popular religion in the world. But it is common knowledge that popularity seems to attract envy, jealousy and spite like a magnet that attracts iron filings.
Islam is the Most Ridiculed Religion
Maybe that is exactly why Islam is the most ridiculed religion. Have you heard anything bad about any other religion except Islam? At least I have not!
The slanderers have left no stone unturned in their attempts at ridiculing, belittling and demonizing Islam. They have poked fun at everything related to this beautiful religion, right from Allah (s.w.t) to the Holy Quran, the Holy Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w) and the Shariah.
History Repeats Itself!
If you are a new Muslim, you probably might think that this ridicule and slander campaigns against Islam are the product of this 21st century. But you are mistaken.
This is really nothing new. Islam is the only true religion and truth has always been opposed and fought against by the ignoramuses since time immemorial.
Satan Ridicules Mankind
Iblees whom we all know more popularly as Shaytan (Satan) was created even before Adam (a.s), the first human being and Prophet of Allah. Did the accursed Shaytan not lie and plot against mankind, even before Allah (s.w.t) breathed life into the clay sculpture of Adam (a.s)?
And what did he do as soon as he succeeded in deviating Adam (a.s) and Hawa (a.s) from the Truth revealed to them by none other than the Most Glorious and Praiseworthy Allah (s.w.t)?
He ridiculed them. He made fun of them. He mocked them. He laughed, scorned and insulted them. So ridicule and mockery of truth began from Shaytan.
Mockery of Islam during Prophet’s Lifetime
Islam was ridiculed and made fun of even during the lifetime of the Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w). The Kuffars of Mecca competed with each other in insulting Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w) and the people of Taif went even further and pelted the Holy Prophet with stones, injured him badly.
The most disastrous part about this despicable incident was that the people of Taif encouraged their young children to carry out this heinous act.
How low could these people get than making their innocent children commit a horrendous sin?
How Did The Holy Prophet (S.A.W) Respond To Ridicule?
When the incident of Taif took place, Rasoolallah (s.a.w) had a golden chance to take revenge and invoke the curse and anger of Allah (s.w.t) upon people of Taif for the atrocities committed on him. Rasool Allah (s.a.w) took shelter in a grape garden, badly bleeding and injured, where he cried and prayed to Allah (s.w.t).
“Oh Allah! To Thee I complain of the feeble-ness of my strength, of my lack of resources and my being unimportant in the eyes of people. 0, Most Merciful of all those capable of showing mercy! Thou art the Lord of the weak, and Thou art my own Lord. To whom art Thou to entrust me; to an unsympathetic foe who would sullenly frown at me, or to an alien to whom Thou hast given control over my affairs? Not in the least do I care for anything except that I may have Thy protection for myself. I seek shelter in Your light-the light which illuminates the Heavens and dispels all sorts of darkness, and which controls all affairs in this world as well as in the Hereafter. May it never be that I should incur Thy wrath, or that Thou should be displeased with me? I must remove the cause of Thy displeasure till Thou art pleased. There is neither strength nor power but through Thee.”
Muhammad (s.a.w)-Mercy to Mankind
Upon completion of this Dua, Allah (s.w.t) sent Angel Jibreel (a.s) with His Divine message to Rasoolallah (s.a.w). The Holy Prophet (s.a.w) was informed that if he so wished, he could command the angel in charge of the mountains around Taif to come together, thereby crushing the people of Taif to a pulp.
But the Holy Prophet (s.a.w) who was the human embodiment of mercy to mankind chose to pray for the sinners instead. The merciful and noble Prophet (s.a.w) said:
“Even if these people do not accept Islam, I do hope from Allah that there will be persons from among their progeny who would worship Allah and serve His cause.”
Following the Sunnah
We as the Ummah (followers) of the Holy Prophet (s.a.w) are instructed to follow the Sunnah (traditions of the Prophet (s.aw)). So whenever we come across people who ridicule and make hurtful comments about this Deen, follow the path of Sunnah.
Instead of trying to take revenge and retaliate with abuses about their religion, make Dua for them. Forgive them with a sincere heart and then pray to Allah (s.w.t) requesting Him to guide them towards Islam. Indeed guidance belongs only to Allah, He owns it and guides who He wills and leads the others astray.
